Braille Trail

The Braille trail runs down both sides of the Queen Street mall. There are six cross over trails between the two main trails.

Tiles with ridges indicate the direction of travel along the trail. Tiles with raised dots are used as warnings.

Community Halls

The Council has community halls available for public hire that are accessible to people with mobility impairments.

Libraries

All libraries have materials in alternate formats, suitable for people with sensory disabilities, available for borrowing.

Many of the Council's libraries have facilities for wheelchair access.

TransportBack to top

Many buses, trains and ferries are designed for easy access. Brisbane Transport operates several bus routes entirely with low floor buses.

Eligible Brisbane residents can apply for disability parking permits. Application forms for a disability parking permit are available from Queensland Transport Customer Service Centres or by calling Queensland Transport on 07 3253 4071.

Council Cabs

Council also offers the Council Cab service for residents who are mobility impaired.

The Council Cab service organises shared taxis, at scheduled times, for residents who find it difficult to get to their local shops.

Who can use a Council Cab?

You can use the Council Cab if you are:

over 60 years old
mobility impaired
a Pensioner Concession Card or Centrelink Seniors Card holder
a child under the care of an eligible person
a carer accompanying someone who is eligible

The Council Cab operates weekly in most Brisbane suburbs. In some areas services are offered twice a week. The service picks you up from your home and takes you to your local shopping centre, bank or medical centre.

Each one-way trip costs between $1 and $3. This fare is paid to the driver as you board.

For more information visit Council Cabs on the Brisbane City Council website

A scheme where volunteers remove from the premises of frail aged or disabled people, items of refuse (not green waste) above the capacity of a wheelie bin. This does not include large, heavy items, which are to be collected via kerbside clean-up projects.

Mountains to Mangroves Senses Trail

The M2M Senses Trail is located in the Raven Street Reserve at MacDowell.

Interpretive signage, brochure and audiotape encourage you to stop and savour the bush experience. The trail is accessible for people in wheelchairs.

Brisbane City Council Parklands

The Brisbane City Council provides plenty of parks, gardens and open spaces for everyone in the community to enjoy. For information on parks facilities and accessibility visit the Brisbane City Council website.
